Driving from Amman to Jerash: A Day Trip Guide
Jerash is one of the best-preserved Roman provincial cities in the world and is just a short 50km drive north of Amman. Having your own car allows you to combine Jerash with other northern sites like Ajloun Castle or the ruins of Umm Qais.
The Route
The drive takes about 50-60 minutes via the Jerash Highway (Route 35). It's a well-paved, multi-lane highway that climbs through the green hills of northern Jordan. It's a beautiful drive, especially in the spring when the hills are covered in wildflowers.
Parking and Arrival
There is a large, free parking lot located directly at the Jerash Visitor Center. You'll enter through the 'Hadrian's Arch' and the Hippodrome. The parking is secure and usually has plenty of space even on weekends.
