Driving to Madaba & Mount Nebo from Amman
Madaba, the 'City of Mosaics', and the nearby Mount Nebo are essential stops for anyone interested in history and biblical sites. Located only 35km southwest of Amman, they make for an easy and fascinating day trip by rental car.
The Drive
The drive to Madaba takes about 45 minutes. You can take the Airport Road and then branch off towards Madaba. The roads are well-marked and relatively flat. From Madaba, it's a further 15-minute drive up to Mount Nebo, where you can see the same view Moses was said to have seen over the Promised Land.
Itinerary Tips
We recommend starting at Mount Nebo early in the morning for the best visibility over the Dead Sea and the Jordan Valley, then heading into Madaba for lunch and to see the famous 6th-century mosaic map in St. George's Church.
